Hightower Elementary STEM School was recently nominated and the winner of the Technology Association of Georgia's, "2013 Elementary STEM School of the Year!" Hightower is one of what are currently four Georgia elementary school's that have been officially-certified as a GA-DOE STEM School. STEM is an acronym for "Science-Technology-Engineering-Mathematics." As such, STEM schools focus on incorporating meaningful STEM experiences for students in a consistent and strategically-planned manner. Students are able to apply STEM experiences across all content areas. They utilize an engineering design and problem-solving framework to brainstorm and create solutions using limited resources to manipulate. It is a hands-on learning experience that incorporates critical-thinking and teamwork. Hightower is a model STEM school for the state and southeastern region. We would like to thank TAG-Ed and the GA DOE for their confidence in our STEM-model and the experiences that we are providing our students. If you are a school or school official, and interested in visiting the school for a STEM informational session, please contact the school!
